Fieldtrip to the Japanese American National Museum
Ethnic Studies

1.)What did you like most about the Japanese American National Museum?
I liked making the origami. We made a boat and a shirt.

2)Name one thing that you learned
I learned about Taiko. It is a Japanese form of playing drums.

3)What did you learn about the Japanese American experience?
I learned that the Japanese Americans had a really hard time during WWII. They had bad living conditions in the concentration camps. They were not being treated like American citizens because they looked like the enemy.

1)What is the theme of the movie Pay it forward? What is the message it conveys?
I think the theme of the movie is that doing one nice thing can make a difference in the world. If you do something nice for someone and they do something nice for someone else, it creates a chain.

2)Which character do you find most interesting? why?
I find Trevor the most interesting character because he was so young and he wanted to change the world. He helped out three people and told them to pay it forward. In the end he really did make a difference. He was also really intelligent for his age

3)If you were to write the script for Pay It Forward 2, what kinds of characters would you have? What would you have them do to pay it forward?
I were to write a script for Pay it Forward 2, I would have some of the same characters and some new characters. They would pay it forward in ways different from the first movie.

ETHNIC STUDIES: SPEAKER #1

1.) what did you think about meeting Joe Hicks?
I thought it was very interesting to meet someone who has been involved in so many things over the years and has experienced so much, such as seeing Malcom X speak ,or leading th SCLC

2.) What qualities does Joe Hicks have that make him a leader?
He listens to what people have to say. He also has a lot of experience.

3.) Why do some leaders change their position on some issues? Is this a good thing?
They chage their position because something happens to them that makes them change their views. This shift can be good sometimes but it can also be a bad thing.

4.) Is Joe Hicks a good example of good leadership?
Yes, he is a good example of good leadership because he wants to help us. He cares about our society and its problems.

I think this activity had some effect on how the 9th graders treated eachother because we were able to do something nice for someone else. We also got to know eacother a little bit better.

If this activity involved 10th and 11th graders, I think the grades would get to know eachother better. Everyone would be better aquainted.

If we continued this activity for the rest of the year, I think everyone would be friends with everyone. The whole school would know eachother.

I dont think anyone did anything nice for me. Maybe they didnt know who I was, but I dont remember anything nice being done for me. I dont know who my angel is.

I helped my chosen one with their algebra homework. They were having trouble with some problems so I helped them.
